The Volkswagen Atlas and its sportier-looking version, the Atlas Cross Sport, are undergoing a significant update for 2024, a first since the model was introduced in 2017. Both SUVs get a new and more modern look. The interior received a drastic transformation as well. Finally, the big German SUV duo ditched the V6 only to offer the turbocharged four-cylinder.
A Perfect Facelift
Let's talk about the first thing that our attention is directed to, the front fascia. Volkswagen revisited the design of the headlights to integrate them more into the grill, which gives the Atlas a more aggressive look. The lower part of the front bumper offers sharper angles and a slimmer design at the same time. In the back, taillights now meet in the middle, and the exhaust tip exits from the diffuser instead of the bumper. This gives the Volkswagen Atlas a more serious and elegant look.
From 2017 to 2023 and Even Further
The new interior is bold and sophisticated. Volkswagen integrated ambient lights the same way a more prestigious brand would have. The multimedia system now has a new 12.3-inch floating screen on top of the dash, which gives it a more refined look. Pretty much every physical button has been replaced with digital command, which I'm not a big fan of, to be honest with you. Has for the instrument panel, Volkswagen chose to use the 10.25-inch screen as you find in other models. I think the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas almost feels like an Audi SUV from the interior, which is not far from what Volkswagen tried to achieve. Of course, the German manufacturer can't offer something as good as the Audi Q8 here, but let me tell you, the Volkswagen Atlas is pretty close to it.
Performances
With two engines delivering about the same performances on paper, Volkswagen had a choice to make regarding the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas powertrain. Of course, the brand chose to keep the more efficient option. From now on, the German SUV will offer only one power, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 258 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque compared to 235 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque for the same motor with last year's model. This slight power upgrade is enough to keep the Atlas towing capacity at 5,000 pounds, which is in the good average of the category.
Volkswagen hasn't announced prices yet, but we sure expect a little increase as Volkswagen gave a significant update to the 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport.
